Winterizing Your Napleton Oak Lawn Honda

We know that in the Chicagoland region, there are only two seasons: Winter and Road Repair Season. Just kidding, but we are sure you get where we are coming from because we live here, too. Seriously though, with the amount of low temperatures and snow that the region sees each year, you need to have a plan that helps keep your Napleton Oak Lawn Honda in tip-top shape to get you through the winter months.

Wipers: If streaking is occurring or your wiper blades show evidence of cracking or stiffness, they should be replaced immediately. Your Oak Lawn Honda parts department is ready with fresh replacements when you are.  Also, it's a good idea to keep a window scraper and brush handy in your trunk especially for those days where a thin sheet of ice is coating the windshield. It's always a better bet to scrape away the ice rather than burn out your windshield wiper motor while trying to let the wipers do the job. Remember to also carry a bottle of windshield wiper fluid in your trunk.

Winter Tires: If winter driving is unavoidable, you might consider a switch to a complete set of winter tires instead of the all-season tires currently on your car. Having specific tread patterns and constructed of special tire compounds, they have a shorter lifespan than other tires but are worth the extra safety they provide. Your Oak Lawn Honda service department can help you make the change.

Batteries: At freezing, your battery's cranking power could be cut to half of what it would be during summer months. That makes it less capable of turning over an engine with oil that has been sitting in the cold overnight. A quick check by your Oak Lawn Honda service department could make sure your battery is at peak power.

Engine Oil: Motor oil thickens as the temperatures drop (see batteries, above) and not lubricate the engine properly, as a result. Check with your Oak Lawn Honda service advisor and your Honda's owner's manual for the recommended grade of oil that your Honda should use.

Cooling Systems: With the engine in a cold state, the rubber hoses should all be soft and pliable, easy to squeeze. Your Oak Lawn Honda service department is happy to check its condition, and replace them if necessary. A cooling system flush every two years is also a good idea to prevent corrosive build up in the radiator.

Road Salt and dirt: Once or twice a season it is a great idea to power wash the underside of your Napleton Honda to clear away salt and dirt debris that could cause long term corrosion if left unchecked. Think of it as a bath for your car. Like bathing your pet dog, it may be a pain in the short term but you both feel better for it in the long run.
